My highlights at KAOS

Sadly it's true.. the A-Bird has flew the coup. Although I've absolutely loved my time as a KAOS staff member, the time has come for me to stretch my wings and explore new worlds - more accurately, I'll be beginnning my position with Composite High School as an Educational Assistant next week.

And now, as it is with most things that come to the end, it is a time to reflect. Something that I'm eternally grateful for is that when I take the time to think back on my last seven months with KAOS Radio, I find myself smiling.

Here are a few of the highlights of working at KAOS (in no particular order):

1. Making a rap commercial with Jonathan Andrews.

I'm not sure if any memory will stick out as much as two white guys trying (unsuccessfully) at breaking down some beats. There were a lot of laughs and that much more flops but it came out in the end with the excellent skill that Jonathan has. Also, I'll miss hidding under Jonathan's desk and trying to scare him when he comes out of the bathroom.

2. Stuart's bear hugs.

There was no better way to start off the day then by coming into the station and getting submerged in that bear of a man's arms. He was always there to listen to me talk about work and life (mostly life) and was a great encouragement. One of the greatest things that has come out of my time at KAOS is having Stuart as a good friend.

3. Talking football with Jehy.

Could I possibly be any more lucky then to be a Green Bay Packer fan and be working with someone from Wisconsin? We screamed with joy in the victories and cried one eachother's shoulders in the defeats. Perhaps that's a little extreme but either way, Jehy was a hoot to work with.

4. Dieting with Jill.

"Can I talk about this Jill?" Hope so! Haha. To say it lightly, I have little control with eating healthy and sticking to my Isagenix plan, which, by the way is going fairly well (down 5.5lbs). Jill was always there to give me a hard time if she found me rooting around in the candy, and I was more then eger to catch her in the act also. Thanks for keeping me healthy Jill!

5. Meeting Rick Kirschner

There are times in life where someone comes across your path who demonstrates complete originality, sencerity, a love for people, and class - then you'll be distraced away from that person by Rick pinching you in the butt. Haha. But seriously, I'm truely honored to of had the chance to get to know and work with Rick. He has put a lot of faith in me and has helped me grow, not only in my career, but also as a man of God. He has become a good friend and a mentor and I will truely miss working with him.

God bless KAOS as it continues to do ministry in Wood Buffalo!

New Year, Less Weight

A new beautiful year has begun and I am acting accordingly to the rest of our society by starting out the new year with the intent of losing a bit of weight - fifteen pounds to be exact (originally it was ten pounds but since then I've gained five..).

I've come to realize that my favorite part about weight lose is when you're in the talking and planning stage. When you actually have to stop eating and start exercising, then it sucks.

You see, my wife and I are planning on going to Jamaica in a few months and want to try and lose fifteen pounds by the time the trip rolls around so that I won't be rolling around. As mentioned, talking about loosing weight is easy but I've gone ahead and taken the next step by taking action! Both my wife and I will be starting on Isagenix shakes in two weeks.

Have you heard of these?

Basically what these shakes do is they flush out your system of all the bad toxins and then replenish your body with all the nutrients it needs. And you loose weight by supplementing these shakes for one for two of your meals. Pretty Simple.

The worst part about starting this diet really came this morning from my good friend and co-worker Jonathan who politely stated, "It doesn't look like you need to lose weight." Thanks a lot Jonathan! Those words will haunt me when tempation comes. I'll surely thing, "You know what, Jonathan was right!" and then give up on the program. The truth is I hide my weight really well. My thunder thigh's hold it all!

I'll let you know how this goes on KAOS' Facebook page. Check it out!

My Pregnant Friends Worry Me!
Staff Blogs - Andy's Blog

It’s really fun how life goes through different stages.

As a kid, there was the Pokémon stage where everyone in my friend group was equally entranced with acquiring the almighty Charizard card.  Then the dating stage came – well, not so much for me (you broke my heart RW!) but definitely everyone else around me enjoyed this period. Then came marriage and finally it seems like life has settled on the pregnancy stage.

NO, my wife and I aren’t pregnant, just all our friends. And although this is a precious time in life for them all, I must admit that it makes me a little nervous...

Let me explain.

The other day my wife and I went over to a friend’s house to stay up and welcome the arrival of the New Year. As the count down began I noticed out of the corner of my eye that my one very pregnant friend was a little more rambunctious then you’d expect a very pregnant woman to be.  She was moving quickly, jumping around and pretending that the baby was on the way. All that was going through my mind during the 3…2…1 was “If her water breaks, I will not handle it well!” I will scream, run for help and ruin the Zen atmosphere that most couples want during the labor process.

I also get a little grossed out when my pregnant friends talk about the babies hands press up against the belly. I suppose this is all because I was once addicted to watching the “Alien” movie series where the aliens would burst out of the stomach and eat everyone.

I looked it up and apparently my condition is called Tokophobia, which means a fear of childbirth or pregnancy. Is there a cure? I have a feeling it’s probably through having a baby of my own.

I love Fort Mac, but . . .

My wife and I just got back from Abbotsford, BC where we spent a rainy but warm Christmas with family and friends. It's always ideal to be able to spend the holidays near family but I was thoroughly exausted by the end of the stay and welcomed to plane ride back home to Fort McMurray.

However, soon after arriving back I came to realize that The Mac possesses certain special features that I could go without, namely, static electricity. Now obviously static electricity is everywhere but it's presence is that much more magnified up here. I was only home for an hour before I wanted to curl up in a little ball and hide in the corner of my condo, sitting on a plastic garbage bag.

Seriously though, I swear that people here will only make the mistake once of forgetting to put a fabric softener in the dryer, because if you don't you'll get zapped so bad it will seem like your watching a scene from "The Green Mile."

But when you come to think of it, if a little bit of a jolt is the worst thing I could think of to complain about, it can't be all that bad.
