A scheduled meeting between local seniors and Alberta cabinet ministers involved in the seniors' long-term care facility has been cancelled — by the government. The original meeting, which had been confirmed Tuesday, was to be held 10:45 a.m. Jan. 25 at the Golden Years Society, the first day of the Leading the North conference being hosted in town and attended by a number of Alberta cabinet ministers. The seniors want to voice concerns about the recently announced changed location for the facility which has been moved to Parsons Creek from the original downtown Willow Square location.
Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney estimates the debt crisis in Europe will cost the Canadian economy about 10 (b) billion dollars this year. That takes into account such factors as fewer jobs and lower corporate profits for Canadian companies dealing in Europe. Carney says there are many Canadian companies that are delaying some projects until they see how the debt woes in Europe play out.
New research suggests many older women may be able to get fewer bone tests. The scans are recommended for women after menopause to check for bone loss. But a new study finds women can safely wait 15 years if their initial bone scan shows no big problems. The findings are published in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine.
