Kings Kids is a faith based organization which has had success working with organizations because we understand the nature of the outreach is humanitarian aid not proselytizing. If youth ask spiritual questions we will respond to their leading. Rick is a former Police officer from Ontario, and youth outreach worker. Cathy is a college trained recreationist and teacher’s assistant. Both have extensive experience with street youth and youth work. Rick and Cathy have had several street youth live in their home along with their own three children. Rick has a Master of Ministry degree from St. Stephen’s University in New Brunswick. The degree studies emphasis was on engaging post-modern youth culture. Kings Kids Promotions Outreach Ministries Incorporated and The Dugout coffee House and Youth Centre are working together as a “one time new initiative pilot project designed to engage high risk and homeless youth; and implement an outreach and intervention strategy designed to connect them with needed supports in the community of Fort McMurray, Alberta and abroad. Community partners have already been identified and this proposed initiative will strengthen and collaborate with current services while exploring new methods to capitalize on emerging trends and values among youth in the Wood Buffalo Region. Kings Kids Promotions will provide outreach services which will activate a team of 12-15 people under the name of “The Kaos Repossession Company” in three street level projects designed to engage visible and invisible street youth between the ages of 9-17 and help them become aware of helping services which will assist them in addressing barriers impeding their long term housing and security issues. The proposed program will run from the 2nd of June and conclude the 15th of Aug 08. Most of the team travelled by van to Fort McMurray the last week of May. The other small chunk of the team will be arriving in Fort McMurray on June 22nd. The team has been working closely with The Dugout Coffee House and Youth Centre which has been operating at Borealis park for approx. three years and this initiative will help promote it further and increase its impact on local youth. |
